Beat the flu in 3 steps

Getting that cold out of the way

Help everyone around us get sick! The season is changing again and suddenly everyone has a cold, runny nose and gets sick. Do you feel the same? We don't wanna be the ones walking around with a runny nose the whole time, the one with an uncomfortable tickling cough at the end of a yoga class when everybody is relaxing in savasana… Don't want that too? We understand. And that is why we made this 3-step plan to beat the flu and colds!

Viruses are flying all around, but we notice that the strength of your immune system can have a lot of influence on whether or not those flying viruses get you sick. A big part of your immune system is located in the intestines. Good news: you can influence the health of your intestines, namely through what you eat. Here is the circle: you can influence what you eat, so let's start with that.

Yes, of course you already saw that coming. The more vitamins you get in, the better you can resist flying germs. Cliché, but true. The way to get extra vitamins? Eat more fruits and vegetables!

  • Make sure that at least half of your plate is full of vegetables. Not only with your evening meal, also add some extra salad or soup to your lunch.
  • Start your day with a green smoothie! Or drink a green juice as a snack in the afternoon. Not only a great vitamin boost, but you will also notice it quickly in your energy level.
  • Make fruit your standard snack. And if you are hanging in front of the TV and want to crab a bag of chips, then opt for carrots and snack tomatoes with hummus as a dip. As delicious as!

In addition, we use a high-quality vegetable vitamin supplement every day for an extra boost of vitamins, minerals and trace elements. Read more about this in this article.

If a large part of your immune system is in your intestines, it is important to keep it as healthy as possible. For that you need a large army of good gut bacteria. With all those vitamins from fresh fruit and vegetables you ensure the right breeding ground for these bacteria, via a probiotics supplement or via probiotics-containing food you supplement the good bacteria. Which foods contain probiotics? These are fermented products such as sauerkraut, kimchi or drinks such as kombucha and kefir (available at health food stores). So a couple of tablespoons of sauerkraut in your salad ensures a daily dose of probiotics!

Okay actually these are three points … But all important and together it works very well! We notice that natural vitamin C and essential oils can work wonders when it comes to our immune system. Do we feel a headache, a tickle in our throat or a stuffy nose? Then we mix an extra scoops of vitamin C in our water for a few days, make the FLU BOMB from various essential oils and go to bed early. Admittedly, the latter is easier said than done, but we cannot get away from it; sleeping is really very important if our body wants to recover.

When taking vitamin C as a supplement, opt for a purely plant-based variant in the form of camu camu, acerola or acai berries.

The essential oils that we use and are safe to ingest are from doTERRA. We make the FLU BOMB as follows;

  • 2 drops Melaleuca
  • 2 drops On Guard
  • 2 drops Oregano
  • 2 drops Frankincense
  • 4 drops Lemon

Take in a veggie capsule (may be several times a day if you are sick), or on a spoon of honey (because taste is rather strong). Even putting some in the diffuser and under your feet before you go to sleep works wonders. Want to learn more about essential oils and how you can use them safely to support your health?
